Results: Album of the year 2012 – Community Voting

For the most participants it was a difficult decision to put together a Top5. But you did it! With almost 90 (times five) votings and over 100 mentioned albums of 2012 we are very proud to present the result of the community voting for the best record of 2012.

Out of an European perspective this should be a relevant Top 10 of Stoner, Desert, Psychedelic, Doom or simply Underground Rock albums. Maybe you even find something new to discover here. Thanks for participating. The winners of the raffle will be announced soon!

1. Colour Haze – She Said (151 Points)

It’s not a big surprise to find She Said at the peak of the ratings. Colour Haze released an incredible diverse and complexe double LP with an amazing variation of instruments. For the courage of exploring new things and the endurance while production the first place is well deserved. Review.

2. Kadavar – Kadavar (136 Points)

Kadavar showed up with one of the most impressive entrances into the German scene ever made. The guys from Berlin embrace the heavy old school sound like many others but know especially well how to convert it into great songs, which they prove 2012 with their beloved debut record.

3. My Sleeping Karma – Soma (125 Points)

With their fourth record it seemed pretty difficult to avoid repetition because of the lack of vocals. Well they did it again. Soma sucks you in it’s hypnotic world of loud and quite, fast and slow and dark and uplifitng. Their presentation of their sound was a highlight for many in 2013. Review.

4. Graveyard – Lights Out (73 Points)

The new record came pretty fast after Hisingen Blues, so it could have happend, that Lights Out would be full of leftovers. Nope! The songs captivate with great song-writing, a lot of feeling and the still impressive authentic overall impressions which this band surrounds.

5. Glowsun – Eternal Season (42 Points)

Eternal Season performed live often was described as „pretty metal“. Even though it is really heavy it also still is on the psychedelic side. What ever you might call it, it’s an adrift and kick-ass record. Find in it’s flow and get lost in climaxes and forced nodding. Review.

6. The Machine – Calmer Than You Are (41 Points)

Again we have to give credit for trying new things. The Machine were (and still are) known for exceptional jams and guitar heavy psychedelic songs. With the new record the Dutch surprise with clearer song structures, more vocals and shorter tracks. You guys still seem to like it! Review.

7. Om – Advaitic Songs (40 Points)

It’s nice to have a fairly experimental record like Advaitiv Songs in the Top 10. It links Arabic music with psychedelic and doom in a totally unheard way. Sure it’s not for everybody, but fans will love the trippy hypnosis, OM is known for once more.

8. Orange Goblin – A Eulogy For The Damned (38 Points)

Five years after Healing Through Fire the new record marks a new level of the UK band. Ben Ward and his band members are back. Back on stage. Back with new material. Back in the scene. It doesn’t matter that the live performances beat the albums any time. This record still kicks ass.

9. Greenleaf – Nest Of Vipers (29 Points)

Another one which was released five years after the last album. And another one which was worth waiting for. The band originally consisting of Dozer and Demon Cleaner members, now really should loose the lable „side-project“ and celebrated as its own Swedish highlight.

10. (1/2) Coogans Bluff – Poncho Express (25 Points)

You simply have to mention Beefheart firstly. Not least because of the great music video this song just can’t get out of your head ever again. You have to roar the lyrics too. The rest of the album convinces with extremly different genres and proves once again Coogans Bluff diversity. Review.

10. (2/2) Radar Men From The Moon – Echo Forever (25 Points)

With their second record the Dutch made a big step into the heart of our scene. Comparisons with Monkey 3 and 35007 don’t seem to be to far fetched. After listening to Echo Forever several times, we should all look ahead, because these guys will bring us more for sure. Review.
